Despite the continuing dearth of public performances, Brian is planning a second CD featuring the music of Ronald Stevenson and F G Scott. This will showcase the never previously recorded set of Madrigals for 4 voices and Harpsichord, by Stevenson, the “Ballattis of Luve”, settings of late mediaeval Scots poetry by Alexander Scott. A fantastic line-up of Lorna Anderson, Mhairi Lawson, Beth Taylor, Jamie MacDougall and Brian, accompanied at the harpsichord by Jan Waterfield will bring this fascinating piece to life. In addition to the Ballattis, the CD will feature Ronald Stevenson’s composition, “The Gangrel Fiddler”, performed by Beth Taylor (mezzo), Catriona Price (fiddle) and Jan Waterfield (piano), and a selection of solo songs by Scott and Stevenson, largely to poetry by MacDiarmid. This promises to be one of the recorded highlights of next year, with some of Scotland’s finest singers performing music by eminent Scottish 20th century composers.
